Let the ilks of sherman and zazona types bark. We all are wasting too much time reading this and responding to this post. Please disregard and don't comment on these posts; its of no use.
Let us all focus on the rally and the things that we have to do to make it successful and not waste our energy on this.. Each one of us has to work to make this rally a success, that is a vow each one of us will take.

Great discussions!! we are all going in different directions... How many Labor petitions few handful? There might be ppl who are stuck legitimately and ppl who did it , it was legal. Rather we should concentrate on Retrogression of VISA numbers. Then what after July 07 , think also about 140's there were pending there are a handful with earlier priority dates. Also many times USCIS issued GC's for ppl with earlier PD's should they return their GC back ? And potato eater has mentioned its not point to argument. I dont think there are those who are blocking the system. It is sheer number of VISA's that are driving nuts. There were also proposals that VISA numbers be applied only to principal applicants. Actions like these will have impact on final numbers.
And above all this idea is not new , It was even discussed by many members (in ~2006) when Substitution was abolished. But we are already here. We will campaign like Rajiv Khanna had said and then what discuss new proposal ? I feel its not that easy to do a change for existing ones in pipeline and USCIS has completely abolished this idea altogether.
Main action agenda: Legislation to get back unused numbers. I dont want IV to waste energy or resources anything beyond this and we shouldnt keep on discussions of new proposals. Our only point of discussion should be How to get legislative fix done.
Come to think of it, this idea has potential to fly. We can ask CIS to make the date of I-140 filing as the PD for substituted labor case. This will ensure that PD will move forward smoothly till July 07 at least. That will cover most of the long standing ( and long suffering) GC applicants and bring them relief. This will not have any other impact on the number of outstanding apps or available visa numbers etc. I guess this change in PD assignment logic can be done by CIS without the need of any new legislation.

Off topic, but I'm confused in figuring out the standards for closing topics in this forum. I've seen threads with much lower tone, fewer personal attacks and cleaner language being called useless bickering and closed.
I don't mean anyone personally, and I can be wrong, but to me it seems like if the people involved are not moderators and expressing reasonable argument against an IV goal or IV practice it's quickly a target for closing. While if a moderator is involved and has enough supporters to overpower the other party, the thread is kept open with no problem even though it's the same level of bickering and insult exchange.

Sorry but do not want to be a damper... But this thread does not give me the right feeling. I have been a member of IV i think from dec 2005 and contributed quite a few hundered dollars and just like this organization as a simplistic, good non-profit orgnization with good intentions....
But in this thread we see a taunt... which is more like we will not have numbers in DC and then some triades...
So far whenever such type of hate comments are posted, I have noticed that the IV core/ Super moderators either close the threads or blacklist the user....
But in this case we see periodically (i think a couple of times) that super moderators are only making comments that we need to prove numbers so join the rally....
Sorry to say this but i feel either this stage managed ( the triades) or super moderators/ IV core are taking advantage of this thread.... Both I feel are inappropriate....
If I am wrong in what i have stated - My apologies to Supermoderators / IV Core.... But If I am right then I think personally it is a sad day since it lowered the image of IV in front of a great admirer.
IV does not stoop this level of staging and creating animosity. As always believe in IV and its efforts. Everyone is focussed in the rally and making it a success, there is so much behind the scenes stuff that needs to be done, IV core does not have the time to manage threads is all I would say at this time. If it were for some of the antiimmigrant folks, my friend you (sugaur) wouldn't be here a day longer. you would be "out" in a wink from this country. so dont consider yourself too supportive of anti-immigration. Even citizens are favoring resolving the ilegal immigration crisis by granting some legality to those who are here ilegally. I think that the IV core is aware of this campaign. They are not against it, as far as I understand, though obviously, there is no direct endorsement from them either.
I think this is a great idea to get media attention - something different and unique, and media always loves these things. The only thing that can doom it to failure is lack of enough numbers.
If we go and tell a journalist about this campaign, the first question we will be asked is, "how many flowers are you talking about?" and if our answer would 50 or 100, then the story dies right there. 250,000 affected skilled immigrants and only 100 of them are enthu enough to send flowers - well that's no story :rolleyes:.
So the only thing I can say is that at worst, this action will do you no harm and you will be out of 30-40 dollars. But at best, this can give us a media spotlight - and I think it is worth it.

Let us say that i agree to what ever you say. In what way does everything you stated above make a STEM graduate eligible for GC without an Employer sponsership. Why does it have to be only STEM graduates which will not need employer sponsership. If giving GC based on completion of MS in us is bypassing the employee sponserhsip then that has to be extended to all EB categories of immigrants (EB1/EB2/EB3) and the benefit o those visas have to be passed to the badly retrogressed category first.
It si not teh question of liek or unliking or having jealousy. It is the question of law. According to the US law employee sponsership is EB category so any new bill which has to be introduced will have to follow the EB category employee sponsership rule, othwer wise it wil not see the light of the day

I have a problem where my "Given Name" is entered as "<first name> <last name>" in my passport (India). The "Surname" is left blank. I have been in the US for 7 years now and it has never been a problem so far. I usually enter the "<last name>" in the last name column on all documents. I wonder if this will cause problems during the I485 name check stage. Any one here who can throw some light on this issue?
I realize that the question is a little weird, I appreciate any response.

I had the same issue and I got it changed from Indian consulate NY. The whole process took around a week. You need to advertise in local newspapers which is not a big deal. Around Rs 200 in indian newpaper and $70 in US newspaper (Classified section).

Here is another story. My spouse has been working for the same firm for 7 years now. After finishing her Cost Accountancy in India, she received MS in Accounting and MBA in systems management from a top B-School in the US. Even then, her case was filed under EB-3, after a two-year wait because her company does not immediately process GC for newcomers. Her case went to the Dallas BEC for LC clearance in 2003. After that we haven�t heard a peep from the Dallas BEC. Her lawyers, one of the top law firms in the county, are not helpful at all. They wouldn�t tell us our case number so that we can check the status ourselves or tell us what they are doing to pursue the case. Apparently, the company has been burnt by employees who have left the day after getting their GC. Hence, the Law firm�s motto is mum and the HR department in the company is not doing very much to assist. Besides assuming that miraculously the LC is approved, the EB-3 for India is so badly retrogressed�well, we feel hopeless. Moreover her company has a bond agreement, if anyone leaves before completing 2 years of full-time service after receiving the GC they have to pay a fine of 10 grand. Her job involves extensive travel, which is really putting a strain on our family. However, we are in no position to change jobs, even within the same firm. I can apply, but then, it is another 6 grand for processing and I will be way back on the line, and the standards for EB-1 is so exacting and the paperwork required is so daunting that it will take months to get all the paperwork and letters together. And, my school is not very enthusiastic about sponsoring people under EB-2. Anyway, what�s the point of filing under EB-2 now?

Friend - Why don't you wait till 9/18 and have this discussion. Oh, hold on, by that time, the rally will be a huge success and you won't be around here to show your face. Strength is in numbers and you will see the power of immigrants on 9/18. If we could reverse a visa bulletin with a rally of 350+ members and couple of hundred flowers, we will be headlines with 10000+ rally. This is going to be a historic event and why don't you take our side and be part of history instead of being an anti-immigrant cry baby.
